Project Overview

Whirligig Building Services came to the project as a local trades business looking to build a credible online presence from the ground up. The client's primary concern was trust — the building industry is one where homeowners are understandably cautious, and the website needed to position Whirligig as a reliable, transparent, and professional outfit in a competitive local market. The goal was not to look like a large national contractor, but to feel approachable and genuinely local while still conveying quality and competence.

Beyond credibility, the client needed the site to work as a lead generation tool — driving enquiries via a contact form and phone, and making it easy for someone landing on the page to understand what they offer and take action quickly.

Structure & Content Strategy

The site was built around four core services, each given its own dedicated page: house extensions, loft conversions, garage conversions, and general building maintenance. This structure serves a dual purpose — it gives visitors a clear path based on their specific need, and it supports local SEO by allowing each page to target relevant search terms specific to the Hastings and East Sussex area.

The homepage follows a logical conversion journey: a strong headline with geographic keywords, a brief brand story to humanise the business, a services overview, social proof via testimonials, an FAQ section to handle common objections before they arise, and a final call-to-action leading to the contact form. Every section is designed to reduce friction and move the visitor toward getting in touch.

Design & Build

The site was built in Webflow, allowing for a fully custom design without the overhead of a bespoke codebase. The visual approach is clean and understated — the focus is kept firmly on content and clarity rather than flashy design elements, which is appropriate for the audience. Typography is straightforward and legible, imagery is real photography from the client's own projects, and the layout is fully responsive across desktop and mobile.

The FAQ section was given particular attention, as it directly addresses the questions homeowners most commonly ask before hiring a builder — planning permission, timelines, pricing transparency, and how to assess a contractor's reliability. Handling these questions on-page helps build confidence and reduces the burden on the client to answer the same questions repeatedly via phone or email.

A scrolling testimonials section and persistent calls-to-action throughout the page reinforce the conversion focus, while the footer provides clear contact details, service links, and an address — all signals that contribute to local trust and search visibility.

Outcome

The result is a focused, professional website that clearly communicates who Whirligig are, what they do, and why local homeowners should choose them — with every element oriented toward generating enquiries from the Hastings and East Sussex area.
